Only Spirit Gives Life

Only Spirit gives life!   Your peace can not come from what your able to do for God by your human “fleshly” efforts,    Nor can you rely on how you are  feeling.

Peace Can only Come From Being In Christ

Peace_peaceTrue peace can only come from being “in Christ”, and knowing that you are  SECURE in him.  It is very possible to work hard to get the victory over every secret sin and still be far from God.   You can get control over every habit, tame your temper or your bad thoughts, and throw away every way of speaking ungodly and still be lost. You can appear irreproachable. But you can still be building on the wrong foundation. Your peace, and your acceptance with God can only come from your being justified by Christ.

I lived that kind of life sometimes in the past. I knew in my heart that I was saved by grace through faith; I knew that my good works could not save me. Yet, like many others I expected God to bless me based on my behavior.

Don’t Try To Earn  God’s Acceptance and Love

I used to spend the week thinking I could be worthy of God’s peace only if I had not done anything wrong. I looked back and saw that I had been kind to my wife, that I persevered in prayer and in the Word of God … and I said: “Thank you, Lord, for your peace”. And I kept thanking Him – until the next day, when I was failing God ir sinning again! My peace came and went according to my goodness – or some of my “malice”. Any kind of mistake brought me despair and loss of that peace.

Maybe you too went through this struggle. You desire so much to please the Lord and wanted him to be pleased with you. But the problem was you looked too much at your righteousness instead of looking at what Jesus has already done for you. You were judging yourself, your salvation, and your peace, based on your ability to behave well.

You thought that only if you pray fervently, read the sacred Scriptures for hours, do everything that is possible for others, only then can God smile at you. You thought, “If I can only be fearful enough of God, or feed the poor and the hungry, or be diligent, or avoid all kinds of evil – only then can I have peace!”

But, beloved, you can not make yourself righteous and justified. You can not know the peace of God through Jesus Christ until you understand what he has accomplished for you. You can only know that you are right in God’s sight through the blood shed by Jesus. That shed blood is why you are accepted by Him.

God Invites Us to Approach Him Boldly

We must pursue our peace in a very different way. Peace only comes by entering into the truth of what Christ has done for us. The Word says: “And the peace of Christ, to which you have been called to be one body, reign in your hearts, and be grateful“, (Colossians 3:15). Jesus will always continue to justify us until we meet Him in eternity!

We Know We Are Accepted In Him Because He Invites Us to Come With Courage to His Throne.  The Word of God clearly tells us that God invites us with boldness to approach his throne so that we can find help and mercy!

Heb 4: 14 to end – Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. 15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

God Is NOT Angry With You

God is NOT angry wit you! Why would God invite you to His throne if He were angry with you? You can condemn yourself because you had a bad day, you stumbled or you did something that grieved the Holy Spirit? What do you have to do in those moments? You must run to the Lord! You must say to him: “Jesus, I am repentant in my heart, and I know that You can erase all my iniquities”.

The Father has not turned his back on you. Yet too many Christians live as if they believed that He did. They live on the limit all the time, believing they are saved one day and lost the following day.

Many Christians live in highs and lows, first hot and then cold. You can never tell where they are because they do not know either. They do not have this foundation: “I am justified in the eyes of God, for the blood of the Lamb, and not only have I been made righteous to His eyes, I am also accepted as a saint in the eyes of the Father, I have a right to enter His presence! “

This is what the parable of the prodigal son consists of. In Luke’s gospel chapter 15 we read the parable of the prodigal son. The son returned homw in a terrible condition after spending all his money on prostitutes and alcohol. However when he arrived home, not only was he forgiven,hugged and kissed by his father. He was also given the finest gown and ring and invited to come into the house and sit at his father’s table to eat and party. This is a truthful image of justification – one in which we are not left to strive to please God with our abilities, to try to enter His grace.

Satan is also now accusing you before God of sins of all kinds. Infidelity, lies, dishonesty, failings. He has made a long list of every single mistake you’ve made recently.

Rev 12:10 the accuser of our brethren – which accused them before our God day and night.

Satan says to God: “How can this person be saved, if I have just seen him do what he has done? I want justice! You can not be a just God if you let him go free like that!” Satan is correct in many of his accusations! Sometimes you were wrong. Some of your actions were not for the glory of God. You did things that are not of Christ. You are not up to your testimony.

But our judge does not let himself be impressed by Satan’s slnder!. I can imagine my Heavenly Father in Heaven saying to Satan: “I do not need your accusations, father of lies! You are wasting your time, there will be no trial, you are accusing someone whom I have already acquitted. Now leave! “

God Is ” For Us”

peacyWe must not be afraid of our Judge. He is for us! Furthemore, he has erased all our transgressions:

Isaiah 38:17Behold, it was for my peace that I had great bitterness: But thou hast in love to my soul delivered it from the pit of corruption; For thou hast cast all my sins behind thy back.

Micah 7:19He will again have compassion upon us; he will tread our iniquities under foot; and thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea.

Isaiah 43:25 I, even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake; and I will not remember thy sins.

I see the King of Glory before all the accusers, proclaiming: “Who will accuse the elect of God? God is the one who justifies them” (Romans 8:33).

Many of you believers who are reading this message are living beneath your privileges. You are carrying loads of guilt and worry that you have no need to bear. God wants you to know that you are ready for heaven – you are ready for glory. And He wants you to appropriate His peace right now!

In 2 Peter 3, we read a terrible warning concerning the final destruction of the world, probably a nuclear holocaust. In it, everything will be dissolved. Yet in the midst of the most troubled times in this world, we are called to live in the peace of the Lord:

2 Peter 3:11, 12 to 14 – “All these things must dissolve … the inflamed elements will melt ..Therefore, dear ones, waiting for these things, make sure to be found by him immaculate and irreproachable, in peace.

The Wounds of Jesus Speak Of Peace

On the day we stand before Him, we will see the scars on His hands – and we will understand that the Source of our justification has done more for us than we could during a lifetime of penance. God wants us to take possession of that blessing now. He wants us to live in peace – looking at Jesus’ wounds to be able to say: “He paid for my sins, devil! You can not point to what I’ve done.” Look at the signs of the nails – look, it is He who defends the my cause, I am justified in the eyes of God! “

If you are still feeling condemned please pray, “Lord, I want to have Your peace at all costs. I do not want to hear the devil’s lies anymore, I know that my salvation does not depend on my efforts. Even if I cried a river of tears, or if I tried to be perfect according to Your law I would still be lost. I would not have gained anything! No, Jesus – you defend my cause, I rest in what You have done for me “. AMEN.

Can you say this by faith right now? “Lord, I do not want to try to earn Your grace through my works. I come to you through Christ because He is righteous, sinless – and I come to You through Jesus, my Lord.”

When you have that kind of faith God no longer sees you. He sees Christ in you. He no longer sees the “old sinful man”, the one who died when you became a new creature in Christ, (2 Cor 5:17). No, God sees only one man: man in Christ. And as Jesus is in glory, so are we also in this world – redeemed, justified and freed.

Are you worried? tired out? scared? Are you condemning yourself? If so, you do not have to live in guilt anymore. If you have confessed your sins and believe in the sacrifice of the blood of Jesus Christ, your sins have disappeared – erased. You are justified

“There is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit” (Romans 8: 1). God tells you: “I do not give you fear or condemnation. It is the devil that has given them to you. Release them by faith and say,” Lord, I come to you through the blood of the Lamb. I am washed, purified, and I know that you love me “.

If you have done this, then Jesus rejoices in you, and God is satisfied with you. Here is what He says: “Come boldly in My presence  and  make me know your requests,  Ask widely, that your joy may be complete”.

This is true peace!

Jesus Is True Peace

It is impossible to have true peace without our Saviour, because only Jesus IS TRUE PEACE.   If Christ does not live inside you,  you will have no true rest!  .  It is HE LORD JESUS HIMSELF , who is our peace! Ephesians 2:14 tells us ……..

=================
Ephesians 2:14For he is our peace, he who has made only one of the two peoples and has broken down the wall of separation”

.=====================

THE IMPOSSIBILITY OF TRUE PEACE WITHOUT CHRIST

HeIsOurPeaceThere are many non-Christian sinners who say that they have peace, yet they live in sin. These people say: “I have peace, I am not afraid, I am at peace”. But their peace is not a real peace. It is not a true rest. It is an illusion, the result of a lie of Satan. It is a false peace that will damn them and destroy them!

No Rest For Those Who Forsake The Lord

In the book of Deuteronomy 29: 18-19, we read of people whose hearts had turned away from the Lord their God, to go and serve the gods of the surrounding nations. A poisonous root was growing in these people – and the Holy Spirit warned them. They were warned that they would be cursed because they had forsaken the Lord and returned to their sinful ways. This was the message:

=========================
Deuteronomy 28: 65-67You will not find rest and there will be no place of rest for the soles of your feet.  There the LORD will give you a trembling heart, eyes that are tormented and anguish of soul. Your life will stand before you as if suspended in uncertainty; you will tremble night and day and you will have no certainty of your existence. In the morning you will say: “Be it evening!”, and in the evening you will say: “Be it morning!”, because of the TERROR that will fill your heart and because of the THINGS that your eyes will see
.
===================

In addition to this curse, other words were addressed to the idolaters…..

====================
Deuteronomy 29:19 –  No one, after hearing the words of this oath, deludes himself in his heart saying:” I will have peace, even if I walk according to the stubbornness of my heart.
==================

====================
Deuteronomy 29:21 And the Lord would separate him from all the tribes of Israel for adversity, according to all the curses of the covenant that are written in this Book of the Law,
===============

God declares that such people can not have true peace – and that the peace they claim to have is an illusion. The Bible tells us in Isaiah chapter 57 ………

==================
Isaiah 57: 20 to 21But the wicked are like the rough sea, which can not be calmed … There is no peace for the wicked.
================

==================
Isaiah 59:8 The way of peace they have not known, And there is no justice in their ways; They have made themselves crooked paths; Whoever takes that way shall not know peace.
====================

Philosophies That Fail To Give Peace

OverwhelmedThe world of non-Christians can not handle TROUBLE AND DIFFICULTY.  The ‘Cults’ can not handle it in any other way than by denying it by DISAPPEARING  into a world of make believe. They do not face troubles and difficulty head-on. Their advice is: close in a room, meditate and abandoned to non-existence and nothingness. But such a “peace” does not last more than a couple of days, before the anxiety and worries of this world come back to submerge you.

In contrast, Jesus is most glorified in His church during the days of adversity. Those are the moments when Christianity clearly triumphs over every other religion or sect – because it is the Lord himself who faces every crisis of ours! And He grants us abundant peace in the midst of every tribulation.

Some of the most deceived people on this earth are those who proclaim peace without Christ. Theirs is a false security. If you ask a man on the street: “Do you have peace with God? Your heart is at peace?”, He will most likely answer: “Yes. I am not a Christian, but I am at peace.

Another man will tell you: “Oh, I’m fifteen years old, I have peace”. If you ask him how he has had the peace of which he speaks, he will answer: “Years ago I was in all sorts of anguishes, and someone taught me meditation.” I entered a room, and began to repeat my mantra. I have withdrawn from this world, and a spirit has descended on me as fresh and invigorating water. “

You ask him: “But what is the origin, the source of your peace? How can you know that it is authentic?”

He will answer: “I can not say where it comes from or how I receive it.What I know is that I have a calm heart, and in peace I feel happy and happy, and if I have worries, I go back to my room and repeat my mantra I close everything out “.

America today is full of Eastern doctrines, which all claim to be able to give peace in the heart. These eastern Mystics and New Age teachers call the empty mental state they seek to achieve, “NIRVANA”. But it has nothing to do with peace. On the contrary, it is a self-surrender to emptiness. God DOESN’T offer emptiness. On the contrary, he offers fullness. He gives peace like a river – which always flows, pure, and is continually renewed!

The Danger of “Reformation Conversion”

A person sometimes testifies: “I was taking a bad road.   I was hurting myself and my family.” I knew it was time for me to change – so I decided for a fresh start. I put my own bad habits aside and I started doing what is right; I now give money to the poor.   I started going to church regularly, I’m not the same person I used to be. I worked hard to make this peace I now feel and now I think God is pleased with me. “

But such a person is the victim of religious pride and self-righteousness!  The Bible states in Romans chapter 3 ……..

==================
Romans 3:20By the works of the law no one will be justified before Him.
=============

The next time this person falls into some sin, he will realize that his peace has vanished.   All his peace through self-righteousness was all an illusory dream.

The peace that comes from purley moral  striving to reform oneself  is not true peace,  It is numbness!  It is spiritual blindness. Only RIGHTEOUSNESS can produce peace, and nothing else:

=================
Isaiah 32:17The effect of RIGHTEOUSNESS will be peace, the result of righteousness, tranquility and security forever.
=====================

I’m Doing My Best

You can say, “I am not a wicked man, I do not do the things that the wicked do.” But in the eyes of God wickedness is more than just unclean sexual lusts,  heavy drinking, or drug abuse. In the eyes of God, the wicked is who knows that Christ is the source of all peace – but He rejects it and refuses Christ’s gift of free salvation. Evil is to resist Christ’s call to accept Him as the Prince of Peace.

It does not matter if you seem to be perfect. You may not drink heavily, smoke or cheat. It can even  seem to you to have almost all the good qualities that a good person should have. But if you turn your back on Christ, you are wicked in the sight of God, because you have rejected the only way of salvation. God clearly declares that there will be no peace for that kind of person.

True Peace  – The Result of Being Justified by Faith.

There must be a foundation on which our peace is based – and Scripture says that that foundation is our justification. We have peace because Jesus Christ has justified us before the Father.

=================
Romans 5:1 Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ
==================

Too many Christian believers have never entered into this great peace that the Lord has promised. Beloved, we who believe we are justified – and it is important for us to understand what this important words mean, because it is the secret of our peace!

Justification by faith in the sacrifice of Christ implies two principles: first, the affirmation that my sins are erased. I was absolved of them by the blood of the Lamb. I am no longer charged because Jesus went to the cross for me and paid for them, all of them.

This justification by faith is the rock, the foundation of all peace with God. “To justify” means to declare someone innocent. It means to proclaim that his debt has been entirely paid by Christ and that God is satisfied.

======================
Rom 4:25 (Jesus) was delivered up because of our offenses, and was raised because of our justification.
==============

Jesus has been resurrected to declare us free from all guilt!

More Than Forgiven

But being justified means much more than just being forgiven. Jesus not only washed me from all my sins – He also made me acceptable to the Father through His sacrifice. We actually become the righteousness of God in Him! This is the second big part of the justification. I have been declared innocent and without guilt – and I have also been declared a saint in the eyes of God.

Your peace can not come from what you do or how you feel. It can only come from being “in Christ”. It is very possible yo work hard to get the victory over every secret sin and still be far from God. You can get control over every habit, tame your temper or your bad thoughts, and throw away every way of speaking ungodly and still be lost. You can appear irreproachable. But you can still be building on the wrong foundation. Your peace, and your acceptance with God can only come from your being justified by Christ.

My Peace I Leave You – My Peace I Give You

Just before Jesus went  to the cross, in the upper room with his disciples, the Lord Jesus said these words.” My peace I leave you”.  He left us lasting peace.

The late  Dr. Billy Graham wrote an ” epic” book at  the time of the start of his ministry, masterfully explaining how each and every person can find this peace through The Lord Jesus Christ.   This classic book, which I highly recommend was called Peace with God.22

In this book, as well as speaking at length of  peace with God , Dr. Graham addresses such issues as life after death, the nature of faith and the Christians  future hope.

Jesus said, I leave you my peace

==============
John 14: 27 – Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
===========

All About God’s Peace

Jesus said, “I leave you peace, I give you my peace”. .  But the sad fact is that not all  Christians have discovered how to live in this sweet peace.   Some still have agitation in the he art – and live in fear!  Many  are afflicted in secret with panic, agitation and sleepless nights.  Christians should NEVER have need to fear this way!  Here is what the prophet Zachariah prophesied concerning the coming of the Messiah and the freedom from fear he would bring to us:

============
Luke 1: 75, 76 To grant us that we, being delivered from the hand of our enemies,Might serve Him without fear, 75 In holiness and righteousness before Him all the days of our life.
============

That Is Why Jesus Came

Beloved, this is why Jesus came into the world and died for sinners; so that we could walk with God without fear, resting in His peace all the days of our life ! Every day of your life!   PEACE!

No fear, but peace in the mind and in the heart, every day of our life! This also applies to the days of suffering, agitation, trial and uncertainty. God intends us to have his peace in both happy and sad days. No matter what we have to face, we must be able to live in that peace at all times.

Zachariah added these words about Jesus: “To shine on those who lie in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our steps in the way of peace” (Luke 1:79). He was saying that Jesus would lead all His children in the path of peace – not in restlessness, in loneliness or in fear, but in peace!

Jesus is the Prince of Peace. At His birth the angels sang “Peace on earth …” His gospel is called the gospel of peace. And he himself promised as recorded in John chapter 16 …. “…

===============
John 16:33These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.
====================

Peace – Received Through The Gospel

It is PEACE that we receive through the gospel: In Acts 10:36 we read ….

=============
Acts 10:36The word which He has directed unto the children of Israel, proclaiming peace through Jesus Christ”
============

Also, the apostle Paul describes the acceptable way in which believers must serve Christ.  Compare your life with what Paul describes:…………….

============
Romans 14: 17 to 19For the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit, for those who serve Christ in these things are pleasing to God and approved by men, so we seek to achieve the things that contribute to peace and mutual building.
=============

The Believers Trials

Every Christian experiences trialsThe scriptures clearly teach that in this world we will face tribulation, persecution and painful trials – “… fights outside, fears from within (2 Corinthians 7: 5).

We will be tempted, we will suffer for the love of Christ. The winds of adversity will try to shake the building of faith that we have built on the Rock of our salvation, which is Jesus the Lord.  But we ARE ABLE continue to serve Him with righteousness. Filled with peace and joy in the Holy Spirit – at all times. Paul’s prayer for all believers was this………….

================
2 Thessalonians 3:16 – “May The Lord of peace himself give you peace always and in every way [or circumstance] The Lord be with you all!
================

Think about it! Peace in every circumstance!
I ask you: do you have peace in every circumstance? In every hour of the day are you filled with that absolute peace?

Here is a definition of peace: inner contentment, inner calm, serenity, tranquility, being free from any struggle, at rest, having calmness in the spirit.

Unfortunately, the world does not see this serenity in many of us. In times of crisis, many believers are not dominated by a calm, unperturbed spirit. Too often others see us struck by panic, worried and frustrated.

GOD’S PLAN – PEACE IN EVERY CIRCUMSTANCE

God’s plan for His children is that we can live free of all anxieties and worries! We know this. We claim to believe it, and the Scriptures confirm it! But very few Christians have really entered that peace. Few are really free!

Here is what the Lord wants for us: This is written in the Book of Philippians 4:6 to 7 …..

==============
Philippians 4:6 to 7 Do not worry about anything, but in all things make known your requests to God in prayers and supplications, accompanied by thanksgiving, and the peace of God, which overcomes all intelligence, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus
==============

We can bring all our burdens and cares to God in prayer? I mean, really everything? I have often said that I go to God without asking him anything, but simply loving Him. But God invites us to go to Him by making him know all our requests. He is pleased to receive us! The blessing you receive after having made your prayers known is not that you come out of your room and see your prayer answered instantly – the sickness or anguish gone, and every problem solved.
Rather, it is your heart that changes because God has given you His peace

When we go to our room to pray, unloading the weights of our souls, crying and making known our requests to God – we leave OUR PRAYER ROOM, having received peace!  The disease may not have disappeared IMMEDIATELY – but WE OURSELVES have changed! Conflicts, fears, anxiety have disappeared.

Peace with God

MORE LOVELY THAN EVERY MUSIC

The news of the redemption that Our Lord Jesus accomplished for us on the rugged, cruel cross, is to the ear,  more lovely to than every music in the world.

Music to the sinner's ear.The redemption Jesus made for us  (buying us out of sin’s slave-market) is nothing less God HIMSELF coming to take the punishment for our sins. These are the sins that we committed against Him.

 ==============
2 Cor 5:18, 19 – But all things are of God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ, and gave unto us the ministry of reconciliation; 19 to wit, that God was in Christ reconciling the world unto himself, not reckoning unto them their trespasses, and having committed unto us the word of reconciliation.
==============

The redemption of Christ is God bearing that with which man has sinned against Him. Jesus of Nazareth id God!  If Jesus of Nazareth was not God, He would not be qualified to bear our sins. He is the very God whom we sinned against.
Our God has come down to earth personally and borne our sins. Today, it is God rather than man who has borne our sins. Thank God that He Himself has come to the world to bear our sins. This is the work of the Lord Jesus on the cross.

Watchman Nee wrote these words in his publication, ‘The Gospel of God (1)”…

“The Lord Jesus is not a third party; He is the first party. Because He is God, He is qualified to be crucified on the cross. Because He is man, He can die on the cross on our behalf. We must distinguish between these two statements clearly. He is qualified to be crucified because He is God, and He is able to be crucified because He is man. He is the opposite party; He has stepped over to man’s side to suffer punishment. God has become a man. He has come among man, joined Himself to man, taken up man’s burden, and borne all his sins. If redemption is to be righteous, Jesus of Nazareth must be God. If Jesus of Nazareth is not God, redemption is not righteous. Every time I look at the cross, I say within myself, “This is God.” If He is not God, His death becomes unrighteous and it cannot save us, for He is but a third party. But thank and praise the Lord, He is the party opposite us. That is why I made the statement that only two parties are able to deal with our sins. One is we ourselves, in which case we have to die ourselves. The other party is the God whom we have sinned against, in which case He dies for us. Other than these two parties, no third party has the right or authority to deal with our sins.”

How Is God Seen and Heard

In the Old Testament God spoke by prophets.  How is God seen and heard now?   The bible says that Jesus is the brightness of God’s glory and God speaks by Him.

God speaks to us in Jesus

The Glorious Change In God’s Way of Speaking

Since the coming of our Lord to earth, and his powerful death and glorious resurrection God now speaks to us  ALWAYS  in His Son.

God Is Now Speaking In His Son

In the Old Testament God spoke in the prophets, in men moved by His Spirit (Heb. 1:1; 2 Pet. 1:21).
============================
Heb 1: 1, 2God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, 2 has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds;
===============
================
2 Pet. 1:21 prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit
——————–
In the New Testament, (after Jesus death and resurrection), God speaks in the Son, who is God Himself openly shown and expressed (Heb. 1:2-3)
=================
Heb. 1:2 and 3has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds; 3 who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,
===================

God The Father Has Been Revealed In Jesus

God the Father is hidden and not visible to human eyes, but God the Son is expressed.    The Son of God is visible.
The beauty and loveliness of God the Father could be seen as Jesus walked this earth. Today, we who have His Spirit can see the same beauty and loveliness of Jesus as the Holy Spirit reveals him to us. Thus we see the Glorious Father as we ‘look at Jesus’
No one has ever seen God, but the Son as the “Word of God, as the speaking of God, has declared and expressed Him.

John 1: 18  – No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is Himself God and is at the Father’s side, has made Him known.

Whereas God spoke through the prophets in the Old Testament, He did not have Himself expressed. But in the New Testament God speaks in the Son, who expresses Him. Formerly God spoke through the prophets indirectly, but now He speaks directly in the Son, that is, in the One who is the expression of the Father.

The BLESSINGS OF THE NEW COVENANT – (3)

We will now ask the question,  ” IN THE BLESSINGS OF THE NEW COVENANT WHAT DOES A HEART OF FLESH THAT  GOD PROMISED TO  GIVE TO PLACE INSIDE US US LOOK LIKE?  The answer lies in the hearts of man that needed change. A great change was needed.

WHAT IS A HEART OF FLESH?

  1. A Heart Inclined Towards Righteousness
  1. It is a “Truth Filled Heart
  2. A heart turned from foolish madness to wisdom

            (4) It is soft and readily responds to God

THROUGH THE WHOLE OF THE NEW TESTAMENT THERE WAS ALWAYS ONE TROUBLE. MAN’S HEART WAS NOT RIGHT WITH GOD. IN THE NEW COVENANT THE EVIL IS TO BE REMEDIED. ITS CENTRAL PROMISE IS A HEART DELIGHTING IN GOD’S LAW AND CAPABLE OF KNOWING AND HOLDING FELLOWSHIP WITH HIM.

As I said … We are given a new disposition!

THE “ HAVE TO’S “ OF THE CHRISTIAN LIFE HAVE BECOME THE “ I WANT TO’S” – BECAUSE GOD IS WRITING HIS LAW ON OUR HEARTS.

Jer 31 33 –  But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.

God has moved upon us in Christ so powerfully that the person of Jesus and our love for him becomes a consuming passion, and the truth of God’s Word inspires us with zeal and godly EMOTIONS to serve him.

As we experience, the power and reality of the New Covenant we don’t have to ” work up” a desire to serve God. We are motivated by God’s Spirit to delight and enjoy serving Him and doing his will.

The Tender Emotions In The Born Again Sons and Daughters

In the New Covenant we experience such tender and sweet emotions. The “ world” cannot even come close to experiencing the wonderful emotions and feelings we enjoy!

YOU CANNOT LIVE APART FROM FEELINGS! IT IS NOT EVEN POSSIBLE FOR THE HUMAN MIND TO EVEN WORK APART FROM FEELINGS. VIRTUALLY EVERYTHING WE DO IN LIFE OUR AFFECTIONS INCLINE OUR WILL ,

TRUE RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD. CONSISTS OF AFFECTION AND LOVE AND ZEAL FOR HIM,

Here are some scriptures that speak of beautiful and powerful emotions in a believer’s life …….

The Joy of The Lord

Num 8:10Then he said to them, “Go, eat of the fat, drink of the sweet, and send portions to him who has nothing prepared; for this day is holy to our Lord. Do not be grieved, for the joy of the LORD is your strength.”

Joy unspeakable

1 Pet 1:8 Though you have not seen Him, you love Him; and though you do not see Him now, you believe in Him and rejoice with an inexpressible and glorious joy,

The love of God

Rom 5:5 hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out His love into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, whom He has given us.

Peace

Phil 4:7 – the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

But all this is the new set of desires that God has given us in the New Covenant. WE DON’T WORK FOR IT- WE USE IT!

SOME MORE NEW COVENANT TRUTHS

(1) THE DESIRE TO DO THE WILL OF GOD IS THE GIFT OF GOD!

Righteousness is INSTINCTIVE. The GIFT OF GOD. The desire to do the will of God is not something I have to work up. It is something I can ” fall back upon” and rely on.

Psalm 40: 8 I delight to do Your will, O my God, And Your law is within my heart.”

Phil 2: 13 –

Many Christians have tried so hard and so long to try and ” work up something” , that God says. ” Guess what – WHEN YOU BECAME BELIEVER, I PUT IT RIGHT THERE!

,,,, that desire may be DEEP!

Rom 7 ……..DEEP

(1) YOU ALWAYS DESIRE TO TO ALL THE WILL OF GOD AT THE DEEPEST LEVEL OF YOUR BEING

============================
Rom 7: 22, 23 I delight in the law of God according to the inward man. 23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.
================

The battle between the “ flesh and the spirit” is raging in this chapter. (Later Romans chapter 8 will show the power of The Holy Spirit giving victory). But notice, in Romans 7:22, the apostle says that he “ delights in the law of God according to the inward man”.

The word “ delight” in the original language of the bible is an extremely strong word!

  • Note: Paul does not say on GOOD DAYS…
  • Paul doe not say “WHEN I’M IN FELLOWSHIP” ..
  • Paul does not say “MOST OF TIME”
  • It’s a blanket statement!   ALL THE TIME!

AT THE DEEPEST LEVEL OF MY BEING … AT THE CORE OF MY SOUL ….GOD HAS PLACED WITHIN ME NOT JUST THE POWER BUT ALSO THE DISPOSITION TO PLEASE HIM.   DEEP WITHIN ME IS THE DESIRES TO DO WHATEVER THE WILL OF GOD REQUIRES IN THIS SITUATION TO HONOUR GOD

(3) THE HAVE TO NOW BCOME THE WANT TO’S BECAUSE GOD GIVES BOTH THE DESIRE AND THE POWER

( 1 John 5:3, Phil 2: 13, John 4:34)

OBEDIENCE IS INDULGING YOUR NEW NATURE, ( HAVING A FEAST)

MAN LOOKING AT CAKE – most CHRISTIANS SEE THE WILL OF GOD LIkE THAT

OUR TASTE BUDS HAVE BEEN SUPERNATURALLY INPLANTED

(4) THE SCRIPTURES CLARIFY IN MY MIND WHAT I ALREADY DESIRE TO DO IN MY REDEEMED HEART

WE READ THE SCRIPTURES AND ARE GETTING IN TOUCH WITH WHAT WE ALREADY DESIRE TO DO.

RELEASE THE REALITY

(5) YOU CAN TRUST THE REDEEMED HEART ……AND THE REDEEMED HEART OF OTHER BELIEVERS

It’s NOT …. what do I want to do – and THEN DO THE OPPOSSITE

(Psalm x: x) – DELIGHT YOURSELF IN THE LORD AND HE WILL GIVE YOU THE DESIRES OF YOUR HEART

OUR ROLE IS TO DRAW FORTH WHAT PEOPLE FUNDAMENTALLY DO WANT TO DO THOUGH SOMETIMES IT IS BLOCKED BY SIN AND INSANITY .

The Blessings Of The New Covenant – 2

We will now ask the question,  “WHY DID GOD HAVE TO BRING US INTO THE BLESSINGS OF THE NEW COVENANT?  The answer lies in the hearts of man that needed change. A great change was needed..

WHY DID GOD HAVE TO BRING US INTO THE NEW COVENANT?

GOD HAD TO BRING US INTO THIS NEW COVENANT BECAUSE THE GREATEST PROBLEM WITH MAN
……..IS………….. THE HEART OF MAN!

THROUGH THE WHOLE OF THE OLD TESTAMENT THERE WAS ALWAYS ONE TROUBLE. MAN’S HEART WAS NOT RIGHT WITH GOD.
IN THE NEW COVENANT THE EVIL IS TO BE REMEDIED. ITS CENTRAL PROMISE IS A HEART DELIGHTING IN GOD’S LAW AND CAPABLE OF KNOWING AND HOLDING FELLOWSHIP WITH HIM.

What is the Heart of Man?

The ” heart” of man includes the will, longings, desires, emotions and also the conscIence. The heart is the MAINSPRING of man!

LET US LOOK AT THE HEART OF UNSAVED MAN AND WOMAN WITHOUT CHRIST

(1) The UNSAVED heart is evil (Gen 8:21)

======================
Gen 8: 21And the Lord smelled a soothing aroma. Then the Lord said in His heart, “I will never again curse the ground for man’s sake, although the imagination of man’s heart is EVIL from his youth;
==========================

===============================
Ecc 9:3 Truly the hearts of the sons of men are full of EVIL; madness is in their hearts while they live, and after that they go to the dead.
========================

(2) The UNSAVED heart is DECEITFUL

=========================
Jer 17:9 “The heart is deceitful above all things, And desperately wicked; Who can know it?
===========================

(3) The UNSAVED heart is FOOLISH, AND LACKS GOD’S WIDOM
========================
Rom 1:21although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their FOOLISH hearts were darkened.
=============================

(4) THE UNSAVED MAN’S HEART IS – HARD
============================
Matt 19:7, 8 They said to Him, “Why then did Moses command to give a certificate of divorce, and to put her away?” 8 He said to them, “Moses, because of the HARDNESS of your hearts, Permitted you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it was not so.
=======================

=========================
Ezek 36: 26I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the HEART OF STONE out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.
=========================
LET’S NOW READ ABOUT HOW GOD GAVE HS HOLY LAW TO PEOPLE WHO WHERE INCAPABLE OF KEEPING IT.

Turning to Deuteronomy chapter 5. God is giving the Law to the children of Israel through Moses.

The children of Israel seem to be ready, willing and enthusiastic to do the will of God. In verse 27, we read that they are saying to Moses …..
==================
Deut 5:27 – You go near and hear all that the Lord our God may say, and tell us all that the Lord our God says to you, AND WE WILL HEAR AND DO IT.’
======================

It was just like a ” revival meeting”!. They seemed SO WILLING AND COMMITTED to serve The Lord! But God knows that although their intentions are good . They need A NEW HEART to love and serve him.

And in verse 29, it is recorded that God says ………

=======================
OH THAT THEY HAD SUCH A HEART in them that they would fear me and always keep my commandments.
=================

WHAT DOES “SUCH A HEART” THAT GOD WANTED TO GIVE THEM LOOK LIKE?

(1) “Such a Heart” is A heart that can obey and love God

(2) iT’S a heart that has been operated on……. that has been ” circumsciced”
=================
Deut 30:6 – And the Lord your God will circumcise your heart and the heart of your descendants, to love
the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, that you may live.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++

The apostle Paul wrote about such a ” circumcised heart” in Romans 2:28, 29 .
.=====================
Rom 2:28, 29For he is not a Jew who is one outwardly, nor is circumcision that which is outward in the flesh; 29 but he is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the Spirit, not in the letter; whose praise is not from men but from God.
========================

(3) “ SUCH A HEART” is a heart that actually “ knows” God
=============
JER 24:7 Then I will give them a heart to know Me, that I am the Lord; and they shall be My people, and I will be their God, for they shall return to Me with their whole heart.
==============

(4) it has a heart that has a respectful and reverent fear of God
==============================
JER 32:40 And I will make an everlasting covenant with them, that I will not turn away from doing them good; but I will put MY FEAR in their hearts so that they will not depart from Me.
=======================

It is also a heart that has been changed FROM ( unfeeling). Hardness,, into a heart of “ flesh” that is
tender, soft and yielding to God.

=============
Ezek 36:26 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.

The BLESSINGS OF THE NEW COVENANT – (1)

For hundreds of years this wonderful promise given through the prophets about the blessings of The New Covenant made to restored Israel had been forgotten.

THE NEW COVENANT OF OUR LORD AND SAVIOUR JESUS CHRIST

Blessings of The New CovenantTHE THEME OF THE TEACHING – GOD HAS GIVEN TO US A WHOLE NEW SET OF DESIRES, A NEW HEART AND A NEW POWER TO CARRY GOD’S DESIRES OUT

The promise, given through the prophets Jeremiah and Ezekiel had been made SPECIFICALLY TO ISRAEL.  These promises specifically concern what God will do the Israel nation when Jesus returns to earth.
God , in that day will fill every redeemed Israeli heart with an intimate knowledge of and a fellowship with the Lord Jesus.  Every Israeli heart will one day be filled with a desire to do God’s will.

READINGS – from the Prophet Jeremiah and Ezekiel

Jer 31:31 to 34
The New Covenant
Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah– 32 not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt, My covenant which they broke, though I was a husband to them, says the Lord. 33 But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. 34 No more shall every man teach his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for they all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them, says the Lord. For I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more.”

Ezek 36: 26 to 34 Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah– 32 not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt, My covenant which they broke, though I was a husband to them, says the Lord.

This promise of the New Covenant  had been forgotten  for hundreds of  years.  Forgotten, until the night of the last supper  that Our Lord Jesus had with his disciples before he suffered. As he offered the wine to them , the Lord spoke these words to them ……..

===========================
Matt 26: 28this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. 29 But I say to you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in My Father’s kingdom.”
=====================
As the Lord Jesus spoke these words to his apostles he established the New Covenant with His blood to His Church. We the church can now have a preliminary foretaste of the blessings of the new covenant that will one day be fulfilled completely to the Nation of Israel. Today is the age of the new covenant.
In the New Covenant the Lord’s special grace is poured out to us his redeemed sons and daughters who make up his church.

You see, the bible tells us that when Jesus enters our lives, MANY THINGS HAPPEN….

The New Covenant given to us is so wonderful – and sometimes we don’t realize the power and blessing we have because of the New Covenant Jesus has purchased for us with His precious blood. Because we do not fully realise what is our inheritance in Christ, sometimes we are satisfied living sub-standard spiritual lives.

A New Disposition To Righteousness

TO US WHO ARE SAVED AND BORN AGAIN, GOD HAS MADE HIS REQUIREMENTS THE INSTINCTIVE DESIRE OF OUR REDEEMED HEARTS!
IN THE NEW COVENANT GOD GIVES US A NEW DISPOSITION; A NEW SET OF DESIRES. WE ARE GIVEN A NEW INCLINATION TOWARDS RIGHTEOUSNESS THAT WE DON’T WORK FOR, BUT WE MERELY HAVE RECEIVED – THAT WE CAN CLAIM AND LIVE IN ON AN ONGOING BASIS.   WE ARE  ALSO GIVEN A NEW DYNAMIC POWER TO CARRY THROUGH THOSE DESIRES!

In the New Covenant, God places us INTO CHRIST to such a degree that we are completely identified with Jesus.  Because of this identification with Christ – we have a NEW SET OF DESIRES.   These new desires are POWERFUL because we have the power of the Life Giving Spirit of Jesus Christ.

The New Covenant is The Basis of All Spiritual Life

The new covenant is the basis of all spiritual life.  Because we have the blessings of the New Covenant:

  • our sins can be forgiven
  • Our conscience can have peace.
  • Because we have the New Covenant we can obey God and do what He pleases.
  •  Because we have the new covenant we can have direct fellowship with God
  • Because we have the new covenant we can have  a deep inward knowledge of Him.

Without the New Covenant we would have no confidence that our sins are forgiven. It would be difficult for us to obey God and do His will or to have anything deeper than an external and ordinary fellowship with God. But, praise God, we have the new covenant! And this new covenant is a covenant which He has established. Therefore, we can rest upon and rejoice in this covenant.

IN THIS NEW COVENANT We Are Blessed With So Much

(1) blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ (Eph 1: 3)

(2 ) We are complete in Him…..
==============
Col 2: 9, 10For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily; 10 and you are complete in Him
=============

(3) In The new Covenant we are infused wuth Jesus very own nature ….
==============
2 Pet 1:4( To us) has been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be PARTAKERS OF THE DIVINE NATURE, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
=================

(4) In The New Covenant we have received Christ’s fulness and grace.
======================
John 1: 16, 17And of His fullness we have all received, and grace for grace. 17 For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
==========================

WHEN WE BEGIN TO SEE THE DIVINE REALITIES THAT GOD HAS PLACED AT OUR DISPOSAL …… WOW! OUR LIVES CAN REALLY CHANGE!

God’s LAWS WRITTEN ON OUR HEARTS

Instead of God writing a ” rule book, manual” ( Tablets of stone) ,, God NOW writes His requirements in our hearts!

======================
Jer 31:33 – “This is the covenant I will make with the people of Israel after that time,” declares the Lord. “I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.
=================

==============
2 Cor 3:3you are an epistle of Christ, ministered by us, written not with ink but by the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of flesh, that is, of the heart.
