The first image is the image of ‘ PROPITIATION ‘. This word means ….. ‘an action made in order to regain someone’s favor that has been lost’. It means to ‘ APPEASE’ or to do something to turn someone’s anger or wrath away.
[[[ propitiation ]]]
If for instance I have done something to upset my wife and I want to turn her anger away from me – maybe I will buy her a beautifully scented bunch of beautiful flowers.
When she sees the beauty of the flowers and smells the lovely fragrance, hopefully her anger is turned away from me. She is appeased. Her anger has been PROPITIATED.
[[ PROPIT 2]]]
Man’s sin does not just make God sad. Mans sin makes God angy. Because God is Holy and just his righteous anger can only be satisfied by the carrying out of his justice.
We all have so much sin and God must punish sin. His anger is blazing against the sin we carry in our hearts. God’s WRATH is blazing against all unrighteousness. On God’s side the WRATH OF GOD was blazing at us because of the darkness in us. Romans chapter one, verse 18 tells us…….
Rom 1:18 – For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness.
We are all so full of sin that if God did not find a way to satisfy his holy justice God would have had to send us all to hell.
But although God must punish sin, He is so loving that He didn’t want to punish us.
So instead God took all the shame and guilt and darkness and sin. The Son of God went to the cruel cross outside the city walls of Jerusalem. Jesus God’s Son suffered in our place.
Jesus, He was completely without sin and inocent, but he took The Tempest blast of all the Curse of the universe on himself. Jesus who knew no sin, was made to be sin. The Spotless lamb of God took our punishment. He was made to be sin so that we can be righteous!
[[[[[ ROM3@11 ]]]]]
Our Lord and saviour ‘ PROPITIATED ‘ God’s anger that was burning against us because of our sinfulness. He turned God’s anger away from us by bearing and carrying our sin himself!
God the Father was satisfied by the sacrifice of our lord and saviour Jesus Christ on the cross. Propitiation took place. Romans chapter 3, verses 23 to 25 speak of the propitiation.
=================
Rom 3: 23 to 25 – for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,
Sapagka’t ang lahat ay nangagkasala nga, at hindi nangakaabot sa kaluwalhatian ng Dios;
24 Palibhasa’y inaring-ganap na walang bayad ng kaniyang biyaya sa pamamagitan ng pagtubos na nasa kay Cristo Jesus:
25 whom God set forth as a PROPITIATION by His blood, through faith, to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His forbearance God had passed over the sins that were previously committed,
25 Na siyang inilagay ng Dios na maging PANGPALUBAGLOOB, sa pamamagitan ng pananampalataya, sa kaniyang dugo, upang maipakilala ang kaniyang katuwiran dahil sa hindi pagpansin sa mga kasalanan na nagawa nang nagdaang panahon sa pagpapahinuhod ng Dios;
Two other bible verses speak of God’s act of propitiation. These are 1 John 2:2 – and also 1 John 4:10
[[[[[[[[[[[ 1 John 2:2 ]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]
So the results and affects of the proptiation are three – fold
[[[[[[[[[[[[Effects]]]]]]
God’s JUSTICE is now satisfied
God’s WRATH ( ANGER) has been turnes away
God’s MERCY is now FREELY AVAILABLE to all who desire it.
