The Word Of Life

You Are The Light of The World

The Lord Jesus told His followers,  ” Ye are the light of the world”, (Matthew 5:14).

ye are the light of the world - holding forth the word of life.

Shining As Stars – I want to draw attention to a portion of scripture describing Christians believers as “stars” who are holding forth the Word of Life.  A people who are shining as lights in the world.   These verses from Philippians, concerns what all Christian believers should be in this world. Another passage from the book of Revelation concerns Christian messengers ( leaders). Both passages tell us that we should be lights in a dark world. illumining others in the “darkness” that they might enjoy God’s truth, light and presence as we proclaim God’s truth.

Phil 2:14, 16 (a) – Do all things without grumbling or disputing; 15 so that you will prove yourselves to be blameless and innocent, children of God above reproach in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you appear as lights in the world, 16 holding fast the word of life ,,,,,

imagesdddddddRev 2:1 – To the angel of the church of Ephesus write,’These things says He who holds the seven stars in His right hand, who walks in the midst of the seven golden lampstands,

The passage in Philippians is directed to all Christians.  This passage in Revelation is addressed to church leaders.  Whether we are leaders or not we should have patience and endurance as we ” get on ” with the tasks (often mundane and difficult) in the world. Our attitude and characters should shine out in stark contrast to a depressed, complaining, ungrateful world. The light of truth that we hold should dispel the darkness of lies. The light of Joy we posses should stand out in vivid contrast to a grumbling depressed world. The peace we posses should spread into others that have no peace. Our whole attitude and lifestyle should be a beacon light showing the way to the unbelievers around us.

kings and priests unto our God

Kings ans Priests Unto Our God

Talking of stars, it was only yesterday that a young 18 year old Christian girl ( a student at university) told me that she was doing a part time work to support her education as a waitress at the ” Bret Awards”. She told me how she had the opportunity to mingle with the stars – the fashion models, actresses, the rich and famous. Then I thought to myself – “This Christian girl” ( whom I know loves our Lord so much) is the real star.  In God’s eyes she is more of a star than any of the rich and famous. She is a princess, a child of the King.
Jesus, in the book of Revelation tells us who love him that ” To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood, and has made us kings and priests to His God and Father, to Him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen. (Rev 1:5, 6). Sometimes we may not act as royalty, but the reality is that we have been born again with the same nature as our God and each of us has a heavy dignity, and an AWESOME
eternal destiny.

How Not To Be Distracted

how not to be distracted by the rich and famousWe can know how not to be distracted by the rich and famous as we realise that we are royalty in God’s eyes.  So, let’s not be distracted and over-awed by the rich and famous; the scripture actually tells us that the things which are highly valued by unsaved man and women are an abomination with God, The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever (1 john 2:17).

What Is The Greatest Love Of All ?

Today we will answer the question, ” What is the greatest love of all?    It is the Love of Jesus. The scriptures have much to tell us  about this awesome love;  the Lord Jesus Christ’s love for all of his redeemed.  All The saints (the people of God) know the love of Christ in a general way. For instance we see many verses that tell of his awesome ” general” love. Such scriptures as:

what is the greatest love?2 Cor 13:14 – The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen.

All three of the Trinity are mentioned here; the Father, the Son and The Holy Spirit are mentions in this verse. The verse speaks of the grace we receive from our lord Jesus Christ, It speaks about the love of God our father and and it speaks of  The sweet fellowship we have in the Holy Spirit.

Eph 3: 17 to 20 – you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height— 19 to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.

The above scriptures testify of Christ’s love for ALL, ( collectively).

However, today I’m going to write a post concerning scriptures that speak about the personal and individual love of the lord Jesus Christ for his brothers and sisters. Remember, Jesus speaks to us ” personally” and individually; his love and friendship is personal. Jesus said ( speaking of Himself as the Good Shepherd), “the sheep hear his voice; and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out“, (John 10:3). The Son of God will have sweet fellowship with each one of us individually, and calls us by our name. He knows your name! He knows where you live! He knows your telephone number. Jesus knows your address.

I want to tell you today the Jesus knows all about you and he loves you no matter what your faults or failures are. The wonderful truth is that the Lord loves us INDIVIDUALLY and so desires to have ” PERSONAL ” friendship with each one of us……
.
Jesus Love for Paul

Paul the apostle often spoke about the love of Christ; the love that he and Jesus shared. In Galatians 2:20 he spoke about the love that Jesus had for him personally. Paul said…..in Gal 2:20

I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

……………………., who loved me, and gave himself for me……

Paul was saying, Jesus didn’t just love the whole world generally. He loved Him personally!
Paul was thrilled and so happy with the thought that the Son of God Jesus, loved him personally and died for him personally.

Today who is ever reading this blog on this website, I’m going to ask you a question……
Has it touched your heart and your emotions deep within you that Jesus loves you and gave his life for you and poured out his blood for you because he loves you so very much?

The apostle Paul had ” tasted” the sweet love of Christ and the power of that love made him want to KNOW that intimate love of Jesus more and more.  The Apostle Paul have one consuming passion in his life.   That one consuming passion was to know Jesus more and more and deeper and deeper in an ever increasing love relationship. He wrote these words in the book of Philippians chapter 3 vs 8:

Phil 3:8 – Yes doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ.

Paul loved Jesus so much that he considered everything to be rubbish compared with the knowledge of knowing Jesus.

Jesus and Mary Magdalene

the scriptures have much to say about the tender love there was between our lord Jesus and Mary Magdalene. This girl had previously been a slave to sin and satan and our Lord had cast seven demons from her.   After our Lord’s shameful and horrific death on the cross, she was one of the first that Jesus greeted on the morning of his resurrection.

John chapter 20 gives us the account of how Mary came weeping to the tomb on the morning of Jesus resurrection.  We read, (v 13) how the angels guarding the tomb of our now risen saviour had asked her “Dear woman, why are you crying?” Mary replied, “Because they have taken away my Lord, and I don’t know where they have laid him.”  Then in verse 14 we read that as she turned to leave she saw someone standing there. It was Jesus, but she didn’t recognize him. Jesus asked her, (v15) “Dear woman, why are you crying? Who
are you looking for?” She thought he was the gardener. “Sir,” she said, “if you have taken him away, tell me where you have put him,

Jesus was speaking to her very tenderly and clearly.  Mary had heard the beautiful tones and ( no doubt) the very distinct cadence of Jesus voice many times, but up to this point she still did not recognise him.  Then Jesus spoke one word!   Her name – “Mary”.   Her heart must have pounded in her chest, her spirits soared and  her joy knew no bounds.   Not only Mary, but every one of us can have the experience of The Lord Jesus coming to us and speaking our name and speaking His heart to us!  Yes, The Son of God will have sweet fellowship with each one of us individually, and calls us by our name. He knows your name, (John 10:3)!

Jesus Was Proud Of Antipas

Little is known about this man whose name was Antipas.   However. Jesus recognised him and commended him openly in the book of Revelation.  Antipas lives in Pergamos, and this city was a place of great wickedness.    At that time in history, our lord said that Satan had his throne ” headquarters” there.   The name ” Antipas” means ‘ against all’.   Antipas opposed all the godless, unbelieving. demonic behaviour and antichrist doctrines that were flooding pergamos!  He was killed for his faith.  Jesus loved him so much and confessed his name before the Father, and before all.

The Lord said to the church in Pergamos:

Rev 2:13 –  know where you dwell, where Satan’s throne is; and you hold fast My name and have not denied My faith, even in the days of Antipas, My witness, My faithful one, who was killed among you, where Satan dwells

Jesus Arose As The Life Giving Spirit

In his resurrection Jesus arose as the Life giving Spirit.   After the Lord JESUS CHRIST DIED TO IMPART HIMSELF INTO US AS OUR LIFE-SUPPLY, He arose again from the dead the third day.

Christ Had To Die To Become Our life

Consider for a minute that every meal we have ever eaten is composed of things that have passed through death.  For example, if we that eat a fish  would we eat it alive? No.  The fish must die first like everything we ever eat must die day by day, while we are eating, we are killing, for we must chew the food. We kill the fruit, we kill the fish, we kill the cattle! Nothing can be our food unless it is dead.

Jesus had to die to bring us to life. The Lord Jesus had earlier spoken of himself as a little grain of wheat that must fist fall into the ground and die in order to bring forth fruit.

John 12:24Most assuredly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain.

So the Lord Jesus Christ in his wonderful grace and mercy, passed through death in order to impart Himself to us as our life. Even if we were not sinful, Christ still must die for us. He had to die that He might be our life-supply.  So we will  see that now Christ becomes the Life Giving Spirit to breath into us.

The Glorious Resurrection

Something wonderful and glorious occurred when Christ arose from the dead.   Christ in His reurection became the Life-giving -spirit.    He became the Spirit of Jesus christ – with the Spirit now having not only the divine but also the human element and human name of Jesus.  Before the resurrection Before The resurrection, the Life-giving Spirit of Jesus was NOT.   The Spirit of God had the divine element only   Let’s read John 7:39.

John 7:39 this He said concerning the Spirit, whom those who believed in Him were about to receive; for the Spirit was not yet ( given)

Bible translators had a real problem when trying to translate this verse.  Because they could not believe that the Holy spirit ” was NOT”, they added the word ” given”.

The Spirit of God was there from the very beginning (Gen. 1:1-2), but the Spirit as “the Spirit of Christ” (Rom. 8:9), “the Spirit of Jesus Christ” (Phil. 1:19), was “not yet” at the time the Lord Jesus spoke this word, because He was not yet glorified.   Before Christ’s resurrection, the Holy Spirit did NOT have the “human element” if the Man Christ Jesus.  The wonderful nan, our Lord and saviour Jesus was glorified when He was resurrected.  In resurrection, the Lord became the life-giving Spirit (1 Cor. 15:45). The last Adam, who was Christ in the flesh, became the life-giving Spirit in resurrection. Since then, the Spirit of Jesus Christ has both the divine and human elements, including the reality of the incarnation, crucifixion, and resurrection of Christ.

Jesus Breathed into His Disciples

We read in John’s gospel chapter 20 that in the evening after our Lord rose from the dead as the Life-Giving-Spirit.  He suddenly appeared to his frightened disciples who were gathered together behind closed doors for fear of the Jews.  Christ then  breathed into the disciples:

Verse 22 says, “And when He had said this, He breathed into them and said to them, Receive the Holy Spirit.” The Lord Jesus had passes through birth (incarnation), human living and a mighty victorious death.  He passed through this process.  Now in resurrection he was the  Life Giving Spirit who was able to  eventually becomes the breath, the pneuma, that He might get into the believers.

Jesus is the Life Giving Spirit to be the very air we breath.Jesus Can Breath Into Us Today

Now today whoever and wherever we are , as the LIFE GIVING SPIRIT Jesus is able to ” breath” into us to be our life and our everything. He breaths into us so that He might bring us forth as the many sons of God into glory, (Rom 8:29, 30; Heb 2:10)   We are now his many brothers who are now being built up by His life.   We are His Body, the church, the habitation of God, to express the Triune God for eternity.

One With Jesus To Represent Him and Use His Name

Our Lord Jesus wants to be so very aware of the reality. that as we share the breath of Hs Spirit we can become completely ONE with him.   This closeness is so wonderful that our very spirit and His Spirit are joined – so that we are one Spirit with the Lord.

1 Cor 6:17 –   he who unites himself with the Lord is one with Him in spirit.

Forgiving Sins In his Name

After breathing on His disciples, the Lord Jesus said to them, “Whosoever sins you forgive, their sins have been forgiven them; and whosoever sins you retain, they have been retained” (20:23).

Based upon our unity and oneness with his heart, mind and spirit the Lord gave His disciples the authority to represent Him.  This included forgiving people, granting them the authority to bind and loose.

This authority was not to be exercised from the disciples own will or from their own will themselves, but in the Holy Spirit.  When we today are also in the Holy Spirit and filled with the Holy Spirit, we have this authority to decide ( with the Lord’s heart and mind) whether or not a person is forgiven by God or not   . If we say that he has been forgiven, it must be so.   We must remember however, that this authority can only be exercised when we are in the Holy Spirit and filled with the Holy Spirit. Furthermore, this authority must be in the fellowship of the Body and for the fellowship of the Body. It is in the fellowship of the Body that we have this authority to represent the Lord in forgiving people. This is also for the Body, that we, representing the Lord, may receive the God-forgiven people into the church, His Body.

Praying in His Name

In John’s gospel chapter 16 verses 23 and 24 it is recorded that the Lord had said to them before his crucifixion, ” In that day you shall ask Me nothing. Truly, truly, I say to you, if you shall ask anything of the Father, He will give it to you in My name. Until now you have asked nothing in My name; ask, and you shall receive, that your joy may be made full.” Here we see the believers being one with the Son and praying in His name.

Through resurrection He was born as The Son of God and became the life-giving Spirit (1 Cor. 15:45). Now we, the believers, in the Spirit, by the Spirit, and with the Spirit, can be one with Him. To pray “in My name” simply means to pray “in Me.” To be in His name means to be one with Him. When we are one with the Lord, we do not pray by ourselves but by the Lord. The prayer that we utter in oneness with the Lord will certainly be answered. When we pray, He also prays in our praying. However, if I am not one with you, yet I do things in your name, that is not right. But if I am truly one with you, I can do and claim things in your name. Likewise, the believers can do and claim things in the name of the Son because they are one with Him.

Watching and Staying Sober

Watching and Staying Sober In A Time of Great Shaking

1938_3Everything is shaking on earth today! – World events and calamities are making EVERYTHING insecure. God spoke of this very time we are living in, more than 2000 years ago by the prophet Habakuk.

Hag 2:6 to 8 – For thus saith the LORD of hosts; Yet once, it is a little while, and I will shake the heavens, and the earth, and the sea, and the dry land; 7 And I will shake all nations, and the desire of all nations shall come: and I will fill this house with glory, saith the LORD of hosts.

The book of hebrews explains WHY God is shaking everything! So that we put our faith and trust in HIM ALONE. When all else fails, Christ Jesus never fails! Faith in God, love from God and divine hope in Jesus is ETERNAL!
HEBREWS  12: 26 – Yet once more I shake not the earth only, but also heaven. 27 And this word, Yet once more, signifieth the removing of those things that are shaken, as of things that are made, that those things which cannot be shaken may remain.

Cooperation With The Divine Operation

WATCHFULNESS, SOBERNESS and Cooperation with the Divine Operation

Jesus told us to be alert and watchfulWe have the wonderful hope that the Lord Jesus will come back and that we shall be raptured to Him. However , as we are hoping, we need to watch and be sober. We should follow Paul’s pattern. We should not simply encourage new believers in their hope. We should also go on to tell them that along with this hope, they need to be watchful and sober. They should not be asleep, and they should not be drunk or in some kind of stupor. Verses 1-11 of  First Thessalonians chapter 5 speaks of our need for watchfulness and sobriety. Then verses 12 to 24 – our cooperation with the divine operation. In these verses Paul covers a number of crucial items that we need to take heed to is we are to live an overcoming life as we cooperate with the divine operation.  I hope and pray the recorded sermon ( parts 1 and 2 of 2) will be a blessing to you in your faith and deepen your love for the Lord Jesus Christ

My Utmost For His Highest

Oswald Chambers wrote the classic book, ” My utmost for His Highest. ”   Christians need to “Go for the Gold of God’s Kingdom” and offer God our very best.

In the Olympic games athletes go for the gold!  The overcoming athletes stand on the ‘podium’ , victorious. They receive their medals of Gold, Silver and Bronze.  The Christian believer too is engaged in a spiritual Olympic games!

Go for the gold of God's kingdomWill We Be Rewarded In heaven

Will we be rewarded in heaven? Yes.  The scriptures clearly teach that there are degrees of reward for the Christian.  God wants all of us to enter into our eternal destiny with golden crowns of glory and great rewards, Part one mentions how we should be ” investing with gold” in God’s kingdom. The question of will we be rewarded in heaven will depend upon our faithfulness in serving the Lord diligently, First Corinthians chapter 3, encourages us all to build our lives on the only foundation Jesus Christ with precious materials. These are spiritually, gold, silver and precious stones.

The Christian’s temptations in trials help in the same way to perfect and strengthen in running this Olympics.  A very powerful passage illustrating the Christian growth and development in love, excellence, patience and endurance as he or she undergoes trials of all kinds is found in the second epistle of Peter. A clear ” ladder of virtues ” is displayed – leading finally to the ability to love with the deep divine ‘ agape love’ of Christ.

These 3 AUDIO  sermon snippets ( based on 2 Peter 1: 1 to 11) illustrate these truths of how we can ” Go for the gold” as we follow the Lord and serve him and seek to offer the utmost for His Highest.

Audio 1 – Investing With Gold

Audio 2 – From Glory To Glory

how to be a winnerHow To Be A Winner In God’s Kingdom – God’s Word  shows us clearly how to be a winner.  It very skilfully documents how we can co-operate with God as he forges in our lives one spiritual virtue on top of another- until we come to Christian maturity.  One virtue builds upon another as by God’s grace we progress in self control. to endurance, Christ-likeness so that we can finally manifest the deep divine love of Jesus our savior!

Audio 3 – what Is an Abundant Life?

Twhat is an abundant lifehe Love of Jesus – what is an abundant life but a life filled with the love of JesusIn answer to that question, what is an abundant life, the answer both for now and all eternity is a life absolutely filled and saturated with the Love of Jesus!   God’s purpose in all that we endure and go through is that we LEARN to love deeply with the love of Christ.   We should be a people right here and now that are ” going for the gold!”
