Precious Bequests From Christ

The Apostle Paul in verse one of Philippians chapter 2 mentions 4 special God given blessings that flow from our unity with Christ

So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy,

Encouragement In Christ

The word in the original Greek  language of scripture is paraklēsis.  This word means to encourage, urge or cheer on.  Paráklēsis (“holy urging”) is used concerning the Lord directly motivating and inspiring believers to carry out His plan, delivering His particular message to someone else. To‘ cheer on, exhort and give comfort of encouragement is the work of the Holy Spirit, who in the original Greek language of the bible is Paraklētos

John 15:26 – But when the Helper (Paraklētos} comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, he will bear witness about me.
Our Lord and saviour cheers us on!   Brothers let us encourage the ‘ runners’ (especially thoes that ate weary) with an encouraging call
.

Comfort of Love

This “comfort of love,” is  the deep and thankful sense of  tenderly loving comfort   given  to us  from Christ and shared with our brethren. St Paul dwells on this “encouragement” in Christ, both received and given out to others at length in (2 Corinthians 1:3-7).

The original Greek word for ‘ comfort  of love’ in  the bible is ‘paramythion’.   This is a comfort and consolation with a very great degree of tenderness.   ‘Para’ means close and ‘mythion’ is speech,  so the word denotes coming very close to someone and speaking tenderly!   Sometimes the Lord Jesus ; cheers us on’ in our Chrstian race and struggles; at other times ( especially when we are weary and under trials). He comes very close to us and speaks softly to our hearts.  In church life we need both Paraklētos  and paramythion in our encouragement of one another.
